What is PPF?
The Public Provident Fund is a long-term savings scheme backed by the Government of India, with a 15-year term and tax-free interest.
How to use this calculator
- Set how much you will deposit each year (₹500 to ₹1.5 lakh).
- Choose 15 years, or longer with extensions.
- Decide whether you will keep depositing during extensions.
- Change the rate to test a future rate change.
How the calculation works
Each year: balance = (previous balance + deposit) × (1 + rate)
This assumes each year’s deposit is made by 5 April so it earns interest for the whole year.
Worked example
₹1.5 lakh every year for 15 years at 7.1%: ₹22,50,000 deposited grows to ₹40,68,209, of which ₹18,18,209 is tax-free interest.
PPF maturity by deposit and term
| Yearly deposit | 15 years | 20 years | 25 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹50,000 | ₹13.56 lakh | ₹22.19 lakh | ₹34.36 lakh |
| ₹1,00,000 | ₹27.12 lakh | ₹44.39 lakh | ₹68.72 lakh |
| ₹1,50,000 | ₹40.68 lakh | ₹66.58 lakh | ₹1.03 crore |
Rate held at 7.1% throughout; the actual rate may change every quarter.
