What is a lumpsum investment?
Putting a single amount into an investment at once, rather than in instalments. Its growth depends only on the return and the time.
How to use this calculator
- Pick a mode: grow an amount, the amount for a goal, the time to a goal, or the return you earned.
- Enter the amounts and the yearly return or period.
- Turn on “today’s rupees” to see the effect of inflation.
How the calculation works
Value = P × (1 + r)t · CAGR = (End ÷ Start)1/t − 1
Worked example
₹1 lakh that became ₹2.5 lakh in 6 years earned a CAGR of 16.50%.
What ₹1 lakh grows to
| Return a year | 5 years | 10 years | 20 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6% | ₹1.34 lakh | ₹1.79 lakh | ₹3.21 lakh |
| 8% | ₹1.47 lakh | ₹2.16 lakh | ₹4.66 lakh |
| 10% | ₹1.61 lakh | ₹2.59 lakh | ₹6.73 lakh |
| 12% | ₹1.76 lakh | ₹3.11 lakh | ₹9.65 lakh |
Assumptions
- Returns compound once a year at a constant rate; no tax, fees or withdrawals.
- Values are in future rupees unless you turn on the inflation view.
