Frequently asked questions

What are the GST rates now?

Since 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall in two rates, 5% and 18%, with 40% for a small set of luxury and sin goods. Special rates of 3%, 1.5% and 0.25% apply to gold, jewellery, diamonds and precious stones; 28% remains only for pan masala and tobacco products.

How do I remove GST from a price?

Divide the GST-inclusive price by (1 + rate). For 18%: price ÷ 1.18 gives the amount before GST.

What are CGST, SGST and IGST?

Within a state, GST is split equally into central (CGST) and state (SGST) tax. On supplies between states, the whole amount is integrated GST (IGST).

Does this tell me the rate for my product?

No. It applies the rate you pick. Check the CBIC rate notifications or your tax adviser for the correct classification.
